Theme for 2023 / 2024: Rooted and Grounded Theme Verse for 2023 / 2024: Ephesians 3:17-18, "And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ."
All boys in grades 4-9 are welcome to register. Cadets starts in late September and ends in April. Registration is the last Thursday in September starting at 7:00 pm.
Vanastra Cadets is a youth program for boys in grade 4-8 (grade 9 is optional as helpers). The program helps to develop various skills in the boys with a faith based background. The individual groups spend time doing bible studies, lessons from the Quest magazine, badge work from various skill sets and learning competitive skills for a Snow Derby and Cadetorama. These larger events are hosted by Maitland Valley Council and are made up of 9 other church Cadet programs that share the same common interests.
We meet weekly from late September until mid to late April on Thursday nights from 7-8:30. We have opening exercises every meeting, but the rest of the structure varies depending on the events for each weekly meeting. Sometimes our discussions are lengthy and the boys are very involved, other times we are hands on with tools and practices for council events. We are not as regimented as some other clubs in our council, and we find that a unique aspect as we work with the boys from week to week on what they want to do, not what other clubs think we should do.
